Application No.: 10/502439 Filing Date: 23/Jul/2004
Abstract:
Sharps are introduced into an apparatus for contacting the sharps with an electrolyte containing the oxidized form of one or more reversible redox couples, at least one of which is produced electrochemically by anodic oxidation at the anode of an electrochemical cell. The oxidized forms of any other redox couples present are produced either by similar anodic oxidation or reaction with the oxidized form of other redox couples present and capable of affecting the required redox reaction. The oxidized species of the redox couples oxidize sharps and the biological waste on the sharps and are themselves converted to their reduced form, whereupon they are reoxidized by either of the aforementioned mechanisms and the redox cycle continues until all oxidizable waste species, including intermediate reaction products, have undergone the desired degree of oxidation.
The entire process takes place at temperatures between ambient and approximately 100 DEG C. The oxidation process will be enhanced by the addition of reaction enhancements, such as: ultrasonic energy and/or ultraviolet radiation.

Applicant/Assignee: J.M. HUBER CORPORATION
Application No.: 11/823073 Filing Date: 26/Jun/2007
Abstract:
Coated particles of metal (such as calcium) silicate that exhibit excellent odor neutralization and sebum absorption properties when present within certain cosmetic and/or personal care formulations and suspensions are provided. Uncoated calcium silicate exhibits a high pH level that may have a deleterious effect upon such cosmetic and/or personal care compositions, thereby rendering the overall composition ineffective for its intended purpose, particularly if the calcium silicate is present in its usual state at high loading levels. Alternatively, if certain materials present within personal care compositions exhibit a sufficiently low pH level, the effectiveness of such calcium silicates may be compromised as well.
Such novel coated/treated calcium silicates thus permit high loadings of this beneficial odor neutralizing/sebum absorbing additive within cosmetic and/or personal care formulations without causing any appreciable instability issues or viscosity modification concerns or allow for coexistence with such low pH materials without any appreciable reduction in performance capabilities of the calcium silicates themselves. Certain personal care compositions comprising these novel coated calcium silicate particulates are encompassed within this invention as well.

Applicant/Assignee: BAKER HUGHES INCORPORATED
Application No.: 11/372624 Filing Date: 10/Mar/2006
Abstract:
Fluids viscosified with viscoelastic surfactants (VESs) may have their viscosities affected (increased or reduced, e.g. gels broken) by the indirect or direct action of a composition that contains at least one fatty acid that has been affected, modified or reacted with an alkali metal base, an alkali earth metal base, ammonium base, and/or organic base compound, optionally with an alkali metal halide salt, an alkali earth metal halide salt, and/or an ammonium halide salt. The composition containing the resulting saponification product is believed to either act as a co-surfactant with the VES itself to increase viscosity and/or possibly by disaggregating or otherwise affecting the micellar structure of the VES-gelled fluid.
In a specific, non-limiting instance, a brine fluid gelled with an amine oxide surfactant may have its viscosity broken with a composition containing naturally-occurring fatty acids in canola oil or corn oil affected with CaOH, MgOH, NaOH and the like.

Applicant/Assignee: CHAMPION TECHNOLOGIES, INC
Application No.: 10/944288 Filing Date: 17/Sep/2004
Abstract:
Low dosage naphthenate inhibitors, such as a surfactant or hydrotrope, delivered into production fluids for contact with mixtures of oil and water, such as in a hydrocarbon producing formation, production equipment, or processing systems. Inhibitor compounds such as monophosphate esters and diphosphate esters exhibit surface-active properties that cause the inhibitors to self-associate at oil-water interfaces and inhibit interactions between organic acids in the oil with cations or cation complexes in the water. These compounds also inhibit aggregation of organic acid carboxylate salts that form when pH and pressure conditions are amenable to organic acid ionization. Preferred inhibitors do not form emulsions due to the formation of unstable mixed interface structures that result in coalescence of dispersed droplets.
Naphthenate inhibitor compound dosages of less than 100 ppm can effectively inhibit naphthenate salts or other organic acid salts that can form precipitates or emulsions during crude oil production or processing.

Abstract:
Cured rubber compositions with reduced divalent metal levels and improved physical properties are prepared using methods that limit or avoid a deleterious side reaction, and that make activator compounds available only during cure and not earlier during mixing. Specifically, the presence of activator soap (or of components that can form the activator soap in situ) and silica filler together is avoided or minimized in process steps where the temperature would tend to be above 100 DEG C. or 110 DEG C. The use of ZnO for example can be reduced by as much as 90 (approx.) 95% in a typical rubber compound.

Applicant/Assignee: EVEREADY BATTERY COMPANY INC EVEREADY BATTERY COMPANY, INC
Application No.: 12/393297 Filing Date: 26/Feb/2009
Abstract:
Polyurethane shapes containing a core layer of a water soluble polymer such as polyethylene oxide (PEO) are produced by casting onto a surface an aqueous mixture containing a pre-polymer of a hydrophilic polyurethane as a first layer of uncured polyurethane, covering the uncured first layer with release paper and compressing the layer, uncovering the uncured first layer and distributing PEO on the uncured surface, applying a second layer of uncured polyurethane on top of the PEO while the polyurethane is still uncured, then covering the resulting mass with release paper and compressing it to form an integrated, layered shaped article containing a core region enriched in PEO that when wetted releases PEO over an extended period.
The second layer is applied by adhering about one-half of the first uncured foam layer to the release paper as the first uncured layer is uncovered and then recombining the adhered material on top of the PEO and further compressing the resulting mass to produce an integrated, layered shaped article. The second layer can be applied, alternatively, by independently casting a second layer of uncured polyurethane foam after distributing the PEO and then compressing and curing. The PEO containing shapes are useful in making improved comfort strips for wet shaving razors. Shape products of the process where the core region contains other specified working ingredients are useful in applications including bandages and wound dressings, cosmetic sponges, cleaning and polishing sponges, dry cleaning and anti-static sheets, and in household, industrial and environmental clean up and waste recovery.
