Title: System for styling hair
Application No.: US2000-0742871 Applic. Date: 2000-12-20
Abstract: This invention is a system and a method for styling hair and parting hair according to a predetermined pattern. The invention utilizes a stencil that has a patterned edge. Preferably, the stencil is a flattened elongated stencil device that is formed from a resilient material, such as plastic polyurethane or rubber, and is capable of conforming to the curvature of a human head. In operation the stencil device is placed over the area of hair to be styled and the patterned edge of the stencil device is traced through the hair with a parting device. The hair is then separated along the trace with the parting device to created a hair style with a part patterned substantially similar the patterned edge of the stencil device used. The parting device preferably has a tip portion for tracing the part through the hair and a handle portion for separating the hair.; Preferably, the handle portion of the parting device has two movable handles that are hingably attached to the tip portion and which open and close in a "jaw-like" fashion. Accordingly, the tip portion is moved through the hair near the scalp while tracing along the patterned edge of the stencil device. The handles are preferably in the closed position and with the tip portion pointing in a forward tracing direction. While tracing the tip through the hair, the hair flows over the handles and collects on the handles. After the tracing is complete, the hair is separated by lifting the parting device through the hair with the handles in the open position. Alternatively, the parting device has a tip portion and a flared body portion. Accordingly, the hair is separated as a result of the hair flowing from the tip portion over the flared handle as the tip section is traced through the hair.

Application No.: US2005-0234736 Applic. Date: 2005-09-26
Abstract: A novelty device having a vibrating mechanism that is disposed at least partially within a housing. The vibrating mechanism causes the housing to vibrate when activated. A plurality of elongated elastomeric protrusions are provided that extend outwardly from the housing. The elastomeric protrusions undulate when the housing is vibrated by the vibrating mechanism. The housing can be shaped as a character having a head section. The elastomeric protrusions can be placed on the head section of the character so that the protrusions have the appearance of hair. When the vibrating mechanism is activated, the protrusions undulate wildly, thereby causing the character's hair to appear to be alive.

Applicant: INT FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES INC (US)
Application No.: US2004-0753847 Applic. Date: 2004-01-08
Abstract: Described is apparatus and a process for the enablement of functional product analysis of the headspace proximate one or more substrate, such as hair, fabric or skin, surfaces having affixed thereto functional product, a fragrance composition and/or malodor counteractant composition-containing microcapsules. The apparatus employs mobile microcapsule-abrading solid objects, including agitating stainless steel spheres during analyte collection in a gas-flow/trapping tube analyte collection apparatus. The reciprocating motion and the air-flow are commenced simultaneously thereby enabling the solid objects to become mobile and to effectively abrade the microcapsules affixed to the semi-solid surfaces.; The volatile substance contained in the microcapsules is then emitted from the resulting ruptured microcapsules into the headspace above them, and the air flow carries the volatile substance molecules into the trapping means, which is then subjected to extraction followed by analysis of the extract, such as gas chromatography, mass spectral analysis, infra-red analysis and NMR analysis.
