Patent No.: US7478639B2 Issued: 20/Jan/2009Title: System for
styling hair
Applicant/Assignee:
Application No.: 09/742871
Filing Date: 20/Dec/2000
Abstract:
This invention is a system and a method for
styling hair and parting hair according to a predetermined pattern. The invention utilizes a stencil
that has a patterned edge. Preferably, the stencil is a flattened elongated stencil device that is
formed from a resilient material, such as plastic polyurethane or rubber, and is capable of conforming
to the curvature of a human head. In operation the stencil device is placed over the area of hair to be
styled and the patterned edge of the stencil device is traced through the hair with a parting device.
The hair is then separated along the trace with the parting device to created a hair style with a part
patterned substantially similar the patterned edge of the stencil device used. The parting device
preferably has a tip portion for tracing the part through the hair and a handle portion for separating
the hair.
Preferably, the handle portion of the parting device has two movable handles that are
hingably attached to the tip portion and which open and close in a "jaw-like" fashion. Accordingly, the
tip portion is moved through the hair near the scalp while tracing along the patterned edge of the
stencil device. The handles are preferably in the closed position and with the tip portion pointing in
a forward tracing direction. While tracing the tip through the hair, the hair flows over the handles
and collects on the handles. After the tracing is complete, the hair is separated by lifting the
parting device through the hair with the handles in the open position. Alternatively, the parting
device has a tip portion and a flared body portion. Accordingly, the hair is separated as a result of
the hair flowing from the tip portion over the flared handle as the tip section is traced through the
hair.

Applicant/Assignee:
Application No.:
11/222397 Filing Date: 08/Sep/2005
Abstract:
A system dries
water droplets within a person's outer and inner ear. The presence of the droplets is typically caused
by swimming, showering, bathing, and other activities associated with water sports such as diving,
water polo and the like. A hair dryer blows warm air at a distance into a handheld drying apparatus.
One or more diffusion chambers containing a plurality of apertures deliver warm air from the hair dryer
into the outer ear. An integral central tubular element forming part of the diffusion chamber delivers
warm air from the hair dryer into the inner canal. The diffusion chamber has a handle to help position
the central tubular element within the inner ear canal. The distance between the hair dryer and the
handheld drying apparatus may be varied to select a comfortable warmth level and warm air
velocity.

the headspace proximate a substrate surface containing fragrance-containing
microcapsules
Applicant/Assignee: INTERNATIONAL FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES INC
Application No.: 10/753847 Filing Date:

Abstract:
Described is apparatus and a process for the enablement of
functional product analysis of the headspace proximate one or more substrate, such as hair, fabric or
skin, surfaces having affixed thereto functional product, a fragrance composition and/or malodor
counteractant composition-containing microcapsules. The apparatus employs mobile microcapsule-abrading
solid objects, including agitating stainless steel spheres during analyte collection in a gas-
flow/trapping tube analyte collection apparatus. The reciprocating motion and the air-flow are
commenced simultaneously thereby enabling the solid objects to become mobile and to effectively abrade
the microcapsules affixed to the semi-solid surfaces.
The volatile substance contained in the
microcapsules is then emitted from the resulting ruptured microcapsules into the headspace above them,
and the air flow carries the volatile substance molecules into the trapping means, which is then
subjected to extraction followed by analysis of the extract, such as gas chromatography, mass spectral
analysis, infra-red analysis and NMR analysis.

Abstract:
A hair brush for
preventing hair loss is provided. The hair brush of the current invention is comprised of a main body,
a bristle body and a spike body. The main body of the brush is made of ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-
styrene) polymer. The bristle body and the spike shape body are made of mixtures of anion emitting
material, magnets and plastics such as silicon and polyurethane. Strength of the magnetic field
generated from the bristle body and spike body is controlled to be 5 to 50 Gauss by controlling
composition of carbon steel and strength of the magnetizer. Emitting anion concentration is controlled
to be 400 to 700 each/cm3 by adjusting composition of anion emitting materials. Combing 10 cm2 area of
scalp one minute a day for 30 days, number of hair loss a day decreased from over 100 each to less than
20 each.
