Patent No.: US6981507B2 Issued: 03/Jan/2006Title: Child's barrette and method of application
Applicant/Assignee:
Application No.: 10/388116 Filing Date: 12/Mar/2003
Abstract:
Fine or short hair is held in place by a barrette having a fastener material known as Velcro(R), comprising hook and loop portions. The barrette comprises a flat strip of flexible material having a decorative upper surface and a lower surface. One end of the strip's lower surface is attached to the hook portion of the fastener material. The loop portion of the fastener material is attached to the lower surface of the other end of the strip. Releasable contact between the hook and loop portions of the fastener material is achieved by bending the strip about a line perpendicular to its length, with the short, fine, curly or kinky hair being trapped by and held between the complementary surfaces of the fastener material. The hooks and loops of the fastener material are closely spaced so that constraining forces are applied to individual hair filaments or small hair filament groups.
Fastening is facilitated, optionally by a snap attachment. The holding power of the barrette is enhanced, and discomfort formerly associated with application and use of hair fasteners is minimized.

Applicant/Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V
Application No.: 10/124037 Filing Date: 17/Apr/2002
Abstract:
A defibrillator having a pair of electrodes for delivering an impedance-compensated defibrillation shock and a method thereof is provided. The defibrillator can be deployed rapidly and effectively with no or minimal clothing and hair removal. To achieve this, one electrode is coupled to a neck region of the patient, whereas the other electrode is coupled to the patient's body. Both attachment areas are easily accessible to the rescuer, thus allowing a minimally trained user to easily deploy the defibrillator to treat the patient. A wide range of energy levels that are safe for the patient can be generated selectively based on the patient impedance. The presence of voids in the electrodes decrease the effective shock impedance of the electrodes, thus allowing the defibrillator to operate at a lower level of energy when delivering the electrical pulse to the victim's heart.

It has three functions. During windy outdoor activities or while riding in an open vehicle such as a motorcycle, boat, ATV, snowmobile, or convertible automobile, it contains the hair protecting it from the elements which soil the hair and from movement which tangles the hair. In an industrial environment, it effectively contains the hair to prevent free hair from falling forward and obstructing a worker's vision or entangling in machinery. Thirdly, in medical or food preparation industries, it contains the hair preventing contamination.

Applicant/Assignee: NATURAL VOLUME SYSTEMS, L.L.C
Application No.: 09/610196 Filing Date: 05/Jul/2000
Abstract:
A hair styling brush with reverse airflow. The preferred styling brush has a contoured, bristled body for holding locks of hair in a curved or curled position. The body is perforated, and a blower in the brush draws air in through the perforations across the damp hair. This styling brush preferably is used with a conventional blow dryer or curling iron. When using a blow dryer, warm air from the blow dryer is directed at the lock of hair on the styling brush, while the blower in the styling brush pulls the warm air through the hair. Alternately, after a lock of hair has been styled on a curling iron, the lock then can be cooled rapidly using the styling brush. The styling brush is designed to direct the exhaust air toward the handle. In this way, the user can tell from the temperature of the exhaust when the hair is dry. More specifically, once the hair on the brush is dry, the exhaust air will begin to feel warmer as the evaporation process is no longer cooling it.
